Obverse description Full-length facing figure of Lucius Munatius Plancus, the Roman founder of Basel, depicted in classical military attire comprising a plumed helmet, cuirass, and short tunic, holding a scepter or baton in his right hand and resting his left on a shield bearing the Basel arms (SPQB). The figure stands on a plain field with a beaded inner border encircling the design. The surrounding legend, divided by the figure, reads: . L : MVN : PLAN : RESTAVR : BASILIENSIS. L.M., identifying the subject as the restorer and founder of the city.
