Obverse description Bearded effigy of Shapur II in right-facing profile, rendered in high relief in the characteristically bold Sasanian style. The king wears an elaborate mural crown surmounted by a prominent korymbos (hair globe), adorned with fine granular detailing. Voluminous curly hair falls in carefully delineated locks at the sides, and a beaded earring is visible at the ear. The royal drapery appears at the base of the bust, decorated with beaded ornamentation. A Pahlavi (Middle Persian) circular legend in the field surrounds the effigy, all within a border of large beads.
