| Obverse description | Bust of Shapur II facing right, rendered in high relief in the Sasanian artistic tradition. The king wears an elaborate mural crown surmounted by a prominent korymbos (hair globe) encased within an inner ribbon, a dynastic emblem particular to his reign. The royal effigy features a beaded necklace and jewelled gorget, with a finely detailed beard. A Middle Persian Pahlavi inscription appears in the right field, identifying the ruler. |
