Obverse description Draped bust of Shapur I facing right, wearing the distinctive Sasanian royal crown surmounted by a large globe-and-crescent finial and adorned with a crenellated diadem; the hair falls in elaborate voluminous curls behind the neck. The king wears a beaded necklace and is depicted with a short beard rendered in stylized curls. An Inscriptional Pahlavi legend encircles the effigy within a beaded border, proclaiming the royal titulature.
