Seleukos I seized Babylon in 312 BC — the date the Seleucid Era was reckoned from — but it was not until 305 BC, following Alexander's successors all crowning themselves kings, that he formally adopted the royal title and began striking in his own name. The Greek standard drachm at 4.16g represented a deliberate alignment with Macedonian metrological norms rather than the heavier Attic standard, facilitating trade across a realm stretching from Syria to Bactria. Seleukos was killed by Ptolemy Keraunos in 281 BC, the same year this issue type ceased.
