| Reverse description | Zeus Aëtophoros enthroned left on a backless throne, his nude torso facing slightly forward; he extends his right hand to support an eagle with closed wings, while his left hand grasps a long upright sceptre. A grain ear (wheat ear) appears as a mint control symbol in the left field, and a spearhead is placed in the outer right field as a secondary control mark. The Greek legend ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ runs downward along the right field. |

| Additional information |
Philip III Arrhidaeus, the half-brother of Alexander the Great, was mentally incapacitated and served as king in name only, his reign managed entirely by the successors jockeying for control of the fractured empire. Coins struck in his name at Colophon — a Lydian coastal city that had fallen under Macedonian control — continued issuing Alexander-type coinage as a deliberate political signal: continuity of empire, regardless of who actually held power.
The Colophon mint was prolific during this window, producing several die varieties catalogued under Price 1822ff.
