Reverse description Arsakes I, the dynastic founder, shown seated facing right upon an omphalos throne, holding a bow in his outstretched right hand in accordance with Parthian royal iconographic tradition. A Greek legend encircles the scene, reading ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΝ ΑΡΣΑΚΟΥ ΕΥΕΡΓΕΤΟΥ ΔΙΚΑΙΟΥ ΕΠΙΦΑΝΟΥΣ ΦΙΛΕΛΛΗΝΟΣ, identifying the king as 'King of Kings, Arsakes, Benefactor, Just, Manifest, Philhellene.' The exergue is plain, and notably absent is the anchor symbol that appears on related types, distinguishing this as the 'no anchor' variety classified as Sellwood 47.5.
