| Obverse description | Facing left bust of the local nymph Sinope in high relief, rendered in fine Classical style. The hair is elaborately dressed, drawn back smoothly over the crown and gathered into a sakkos at the nape, with a cluster of curls falling in tight spirals at the temple and forehead. The facial features are finely modelled with a well-defined eye, straight nose, and parted lips, conveying the idealized beauty characteristic of 4th-century BC Pontic coinage. |
