Obverse description Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Emperor Marcus Aurelius facing left, rendered in the local provincial style with a somewhat crude but expressive treatment. The imperial effigy displays the characteristic beard of the philosopher-emperor, with the laurel wreath clearly articulated atop the head. A circular Greek legend surrounds the bust within a beaded border, reading ΑΥΤ ΚΑΙ Μ ΑΥΡΗ ΑΝΤΩΝΙΝΟϹ ϹΕ. The flan is irregular, typical of provincial hammered coinage from Mesopotamia.
