Obverse description Youthful beardless head of Heracles facing right, depicted in his customary heroic guise with the scalp of the Nemean lion serving as a headdress, the lion's muzzle resting upon the forehead and the forepaws knotted at the throat. The hair falls in tight curls around the face, and the portrait is rendered with fine Hellenistic die-cutting characteristic of the Ephesos mint.
