| Additional information |
Lucius Verus was elevated to co-emperor by Marcus Aurelius immediately upon their joint accession in 161 AD — the first time Rome had operated under two simultaneously ruling emperors of equal legal standing. Alexandria's mint responded quickly, issuing bronzes for both rulers. This drachm belongs to that initial flurry of Alexandrian coinage acknowledging the new dyarchy, minted in Year 1 of their joint reign.
