Struck at Lampsakos on the Hellespont following Alexander's death in 323 BC, this issue belongs to the coinage produced under the Diadochi as they fought to control — and legitimize themselves through — the Macedonian name. Lampsakos was a strategically vital mint given its position controlling Hellespontine trade routes, and production there continued well into the wars of the successors. Price 1398 places this emission within a tightly defined group distinguished by specific control marks, the work of Margaret Thompson's foundational die studies.
