Additional information

Struck at Lampsakos on the Hellespont during the turbulent years following Alexander's death, this issue falls within the period when his successors — the Diadochi — were dismembering the empire through relentless warfare. Lampsakos itself changed hands multiple times during the Wars of the Diadochi, and coins continued to be struck in Alexander's name long after his death in 323 BC as a matter of monetary continuity and political legitimacy for whoever controlled the mint.

Price 1442 is attributable to Lampsakos by its specific control marks. The mint was productive into the early third century before Lysimachus consolidated control of the region after Ipsus in 301 BC.
