| Reverse description | Zeus Aëtophoros enthroned left upon a stool-throne, his seminude figure draped across the lower body; he extends his right hand forward bearing an eagle, while his left hand holds a long sceptre. The Greek legend ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ runs along the right field. In the left field, a civic monogram appears above a grape bunch, the latter serving as the distinctive symbol of the mint of Chios. The composition follows the canonical reverse type established for Alexander III tetradrachms and drachms, here adapted with the Chian control symbols affirming local issue. |
