| Obverse description | Bare head of Herakles in right profile, rendered in the Rhodian tradition, the hero clad in the scalp of the Nemean lion whose jaws frame the crown of the head and whose paws are knotted at the throat. The hair is depicted in fine, naturalistic curls beneath the leonine headdress, and the facial features are modelled with confident relief typical of late Classical Ionian die-cutting. |

Erythrai's coinage of this period reflects the city's precarious position during the collapse of Achaemenid authority and the subsequent scramble of Alexander's successors. The magistrate name Dionysios appearing on this issue is one of several recorded signing officials from the late fourth century, a practice that localized accountability for the coinage at a time when civic autonomy was perpetually under negotiation with whatever Macedonian power held the coast.
