| Reverse description | Highly stylized fire altar depicted at center, derived from the Sassanian and Western Satrap numismatic tradition, with attendant figures on either side rendered in an increasingly abstract, almost calligraphic form. The altar motif, characteristic of the Maitraka dynastic coinage, is flanked by degraded representations of worshippers or guardians. The entire field is occupied by bold, deeply struck Brahmi characters forming the royal legend, executed in a vigorous but schematized script. The design reflects the progressive transformation of the fire altar type as it was adapted by the early Maitraka rulers. |
