Obverse description King Azes II depicted as a mounted horseman in profile to the right, seated upon a walking horse, wearing military dress with a diadem or helmet. The ruler holds a spear or lance upright in his right hand, conveying royal and martial authority. The field is plain, with the design rendered in the Hellenistic artistic tradition characteristic of Indo-Scythian coinage. A circular border of pellets or dashes frames the central equestrian effigy. The Greek legend ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΝ ΜΕΓΑΛΟΥ ΑΖΟΥ ('Of the Great King of Kings, Azes') runs around the periphery.
