| Obverse description | King Azes I depicted as an equestrian figure advancing to right, seated upon a horse in full stride, holding a lowered spear in his right hand in a commanding martial posture. The royal effigy is rendered in the Hellenistic artistic tradition characteristic of Indo-Scythian coinage. A circular Greek legend surrounds the central device, reading BAΣIΛEΩΣ BAΣIΛEΩN MEΓAΛOY AZOY, translating as 'of the Great King of Kings, Azes'. The hammered flan produces a characteristically irregular fabric with the legend partially visible around the periphery. |
