| Obverse description | Griffin springing to the left in high relief, rendered with a naturalistic vitality characteristic of Thracian coinage of the period. The creature displays a powerful feline body with a prominently curled tail, outstretched forelegs, and a raptor's head with open beak. The wing is rendered with fine feather detailing fanning upward across the field. The type follows the long-established Abderitan griffin tradition on a plain, slightly irregular flan. |

The design and epigraphy are consistent with the civic coinage of Abdera during the mid-fourth century BC. |
