| Additional information |
Ariarathes VII reigned for perhaps three years before being murdered — almost certainly on the orders of Mithridates VI of Pontus, who was systematically dismantling Cappadocian independence through a combination of dynastic manipulation and assassination. His father had already been killed by Mithridates, and the kingdom would soon be absorbed entirely. The brevity of his reign makes issues struck in his name genuinely scarce relative to earlier Cappadocian drachms.
SNG von Aulock 6289 remains the standard reference anchor for attributing this type.
