| Obverse description | Bust of Ardashir I facing right, depicted with a full, elaborately segmented beard rendered in horizontal ribbed bands, and wearing the distinctive Sasanian mural crown adorned with a korymbos (orb-shaped hair bundle) at the apex. The effigy is rendered in high relief in the characteristic early Sasanian artistic style. A circular Pahlavi legend surrounds the portrait within a beaded inner border, reading the royal titulature of the king of kings. The outer rim is defined by a plain raised edge consistent with hammered silver coinage of the period. |
