Obverse description Bust of Ardashir I facing right, depicted with a distinctive korymbos (orb-shaped hair bundle) enclosed within a crenellated crown surmounted by a Zoroastrian eagle, with long beard rendered in stylized parallel strands. The king wears a diadem with billowing ribbons behind the head, and is shown in the characteristic early Sasanian portraiture style with strong, angular facial features. A circular Pahlavi legend in Book Pahlavi script surrounds the effigy within a beaded border, reading the royal titulature of Ardashir. The flan is irregular, as typical of hammered Sasanian coinage of this early period.
