Additional information

Antialkidas ruled from Taxila, one of the few Indo-Greek kings whose reign is corroborated by both numismatic evidence and an external literary source — the Heliodorus pillar inscription at Vidisha, dated to roughly 113 BC, which names his ambassador to the Shunga court. That diplomatic mission into the Gangetic plain represents the easternmost documented Greek political contact in South Asia. The bilingual legends on his coinage, Greek on one face and Kharoshthi on the other, reflect the administrative reality of governing a population for whom Attic script meant nothing.
