| Obverse description | Youthful beardless head of Heracles in right-facing profile, enveloped in the scalp of the Nemean lion, the beast's gaping jaws drawn over the hero's crown and the paws knotted at the throat. The modelling is bold and high-relief, with finely rendered facial features conveying idealized heroic beauty. The lion skin is depicted with naturalistic texture, its mane rendered in flowing, deeply incuse locks radiating around the head. The flan shows attractive iridescent toning with good metal quality consistent with the Sardis mint series. |
