Obverse description Right-facing bust of Herakles portrayed as a youthful hero, the scalp of the Nemean lion serving as a headdress, with the beast's mane and forepaws draped naturalistically around the neck and shoulders. The facial features are rendered in fine Hellenistic style, with a straight nose, slightly parted lips, and curling locks of hair visible beneath the lion skin. The fillet of the lion's scalp frames the hero's brow, and the pelt's open jaws rest atop the head. The modeling of the portrait exhibits the refined artistry characteristic of the Kolophon mint's output during the reign of Alexander III.
