Additional information

Alexandreia Troas, a city on the northwestern coast of Asia Minor, produced autonomous silver coinage during the late Hellenistic period as Rome's grip on the region tightened following the reorganization of the former Attalid kingdom into the province of Asia in 133 BC. The city retained enough civic independence to strike its own silver through the first century BC, though that autonomy eroded steadily. Bellinger's Troy series remains the authoritative reference for this coinage, with A164 placing this drachm within a relatively tight chronological bracket tied to magistrate names and die linkage studies.
