Reverse description Reverse presents a youthful head of the river-god Amenanos facing left, bound with a tainia (fillet). Flanking the deity are two fish and a crayfish, emblems of the freshwater river environment sacred to this local Sicilian deity. The legend AMENANOΣ in Greek characters appears around the field, identifying the river-god and asserting Katane's civic identity. The style is consistent with the accomplished engraving tradition of late fifth-century BC Sicilian civic coinage.
