| Obverse description | Laureate head of Zeus facing right, rendered in high relief with exceptional artistic quality. The deity's mature, bearded visage is depicted with finely engraved curling locks of hair and beard, conveying a powerful and divine presence. A wreath of laurel encircles the head, with individual leaves rendered in crisp detail. The portrait fills the flan boldly, characteristic of the late Hellenistic coinage of Cretan city-states. The field is otherwise plain. |

| Reverse description | Warrior, identified as the Cretan hero or armed deity, seated left upon a rocky outcrop or shield, clad in short military tunic and wearing a crested helmet. The figure is muscular and dynamic, holding spears or javelins in the left hand, with the right hand resting on the knee. A dotted border frames the design around the periphery of the flan. The ethnic legend ΓΟΡΤΥΝΙΩΝ arcs around the upper field, identifying the issuing city of Gortyna. The composition is characteristic of the vigorous late Hellenistic engraving tradition of Crete. |
