Obverse description Facing right, the youthful head of Artemis Astyrene, depicted with hair elaborately rolled and secured by a crossed cord or sphendone, rendered in fine archaic relief. The facial features are delicately modeled with a slightly rounded chin, almond-shaped eye, and naturalistic locks framing the face. The style is characteristic of late fifth-century BC Aeolian coinage, displaying a graceful transition from the archaic to early classical idiom. The field is plain, with no legend present on this side.
