Obverse description Profile head of a sea-eagle facing left, rendered in archaic style with fine feather detail indicated by closely spaced incised lines across the wing and nape; the hooked beak is prominently defined. In the lower field, a dolphin swims to the left, serving as a secondary symbol characteristic of the Sinopean civic coinage. The composition is bold and naturalistic for its period, occupying the full flan with no surrounding legend. The type alludes to the maritime identity of Sinope, a prominent Greek colony on the Black Sea coast.
