| Reverse description | Eagle head facing, rendered frontally with wings partially spread below, depicted in the so-called 'flying eagle head' type associated with Olympian sanctuary coinage. The feathers of the folded wings extend downward in the lower field, rendered in fine relief. To the left and right of the eagle head appear the letters Φ and Α respectively, representing a magistrate's or moneyer's monogram. The overall design is bold and hieratic in character, consistent with Elean engraving conventions of the 3rd–2nd century BC. |
