Željezara Zenica was one of Yugoslavia's largest integrated steelworks, a massive kombinat in central Bosnia that at its peak employed tens of thousands of workers. Like many large socialist enterprises under self-management, it operated an extensive internal welfare system — canteens, housing, healthcare — funded and administered outside the formal banking network. Meal vouchers of this type circulated exclusively within factory premises, accepted at the kombinat's own canteens in lieu of cash.
These pieces were never intended to survive. Redeemed daily, discarded, occasionally lost in a jacket pocket.
