| Reverse description | Central field features a plain cross with slightly expanded arms dividing the flan into four quarters, each bearing a crowned fleur-de-lis or decorative motif typical of the first type douzain. In the upper two quarters, crowned fleurs-de-lis or lilies are visible. The circumferential Latin legend reads SIT NOMEN DOMINI BENEDICTVM followed by the date of issue, a Scriptural invocation meaning 'Blessed be the name of the Lord.' The overall design reflects the standard hammered billon coinage style of the late sixteenth-century French royal mints. |
