Obverse description Central field occupied by the crowned quartered shield of Dauphine, bearing the arms of France (fleurs-de-lis) and Dauphine (dolphin), surmounted by a royal crown. Two salamanders, the personal emblem of Francis I, are positioned as supporters flanking the shield on either side. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the royal legend running in the outer margin. The hammered flan exhibits characteristic irregular edges typical of mid-16th-century French billon coinage.
