| Obverse description | Central field displays a crowned quartered coat of arms combining the chained escutcheon of Navarre (right quarter) and the cow passant of Béarn (left quarter), the shield surmounted by a royal crown. The arms are set within a rounded cartouche. A circular Latin legend in Gothic-influenced lettering runs along the outer border, separated from the field by a linear rim, reading the titulature of Henri I as king of Navarre and lord of Béarn. The overall style is consistent with early sixteenth-century French feudal hammered coinage. |
