Reverse description Quartered royal coat of arms surmounted by an open crown, displayed on a shield occupying the central field. The quarters combine the fleurs-de-lis of France with the chainwork of Navarre, reflecting Henry IV's dual royal title. The heraldic shield is rendered in the angular, late Gothic style typical of hammered billon coinage of the period. A circular Latin legend surrounds the shield within a beaded border, reading GRATIA DEI SVM ID QVOD SVM, the Pauline motto meaning 'By the grace of God I am what I am.'
