Obverse description Draped bust of Maximilien François de Béthune facing right, with flowing curly hair, set within a smooth inner circle. The legend, composed in Latin, commences at 6 o'clock and reads around the periphery. The portrait is rendered in the characteristic crude provincial style typical of feudal French copper coinage of the mid-seventeenth century.
