Additional information

Louis XIII was nine years old when he acceded to the throne in 1610, and the early years of his reign were effectively administered by his mother, Marie de' Medici, as regent. The Double Tournois coinage of this period reflects the administrative continuity of a mint system that had changed little in structure since the previous reign — Poitiers remained one of the provincial mints authorized to strike copper small change precisely because demand from local markets outpaced what Paris alone could supply.

The Poitiers mint used the letter G as its mark. The 2nd type designation distinguishes this emission from the 1st type by a modification to the bust treatment introduced around 1618.
