Obverse description Draped bust of Louis XIII facing right, rendered in low relief in the baroque style typical of early 17th-century French coinage. The effigy displays the king with flowing hair and a lace collar, contained within a circular inner border. The surrounding Latin legend reads LOVIS.XIII.R.D.FRAN.ET.NAVA.D., abbreviating his titles as King of France and Navarre. The mint mark D for Lyon appears in the legend field. The crude, somewhat irregular strike is characteristic of hammered copper coinage of the period.
