| Obverse description | Laureate bust of Louis XIII facing right, rendered in large relief with a prominent ruff collar. Three bust varieties exist: Type A bears no caption, Type B carries a caption at the top of the field, and Type C features a caption below the bust. Type A presents further subdivisions based on legend starting position, the presence or absence of a heart ornament beneath the bust, and whether the heart appears within or outside the legend. Type B is catalogued in eight legend-cut variants (I through VIII) distinguished by the placement of line breaks within the royal title legend, while Type C is recorded in two caption-cut variants (A and B). The obverse field is bounded by a smooth inner circle. |
