Obverse description Central field displays a fleur-de-lis enclosed within a pointed Gothic arch or trefoil frame, flanked by two additional fleurs-de-lis in the lower quarters, evoking the traditional arms of France. The design is set within a plain inner circle surrounded by a beaded border. The peripheral legend in uncial Latin characters reads LVDOVICVS FRACORV REX, identifying Louis XI as King of the Franks, introduced by a cross pattee. The coin's irregular flan and characteristic hammered fabric are consistent with mid-fifteenth-century French billon coinage.
