Obverse description Central fleur-de-lis displayed within a trefoil frame, flanked by two additional fleurs-de-lis arranged symmetrically in the remaining lobes of the trefoil, forming a three-lily composition characteristic of French royal billon coinage of the period. The motif is rendered in low relief typical of hammered billon manufacture. The surrounding circular legend reads HENRI 2 D G FRAN REX in Latin characters. The field shows the irregular flan shape and surface patina common to mid-sixteenth-century French petite monnaie.
