Obverse description Laureate and cuirassed bust of Henri III facing right, bearded and mustachioed, with a flat collar. The effigy is rendered in a style typical of late Valois royal portraiture. The legend, presented in Latin without a surrounding circle, begins at either 6 or 12 o'clock depending on the variant: legends (a) and (b) commence at 6 o'clock, while legend (c) commences at 12 o'clock. Three distinct legend variants are recorded for this issue.

Reverse description Three fleurs-de-lis arranged in a 2-and-1 pattern in the field, without an enclosing circle, representing the royal arms of France. The legend, in Latin, begins with a cross pattée and commences at either 12 o'clock (legends 1 through 5) or 6 o'clock (legend 6) depending on the variant. Mintmaster marks appear within the legend: a DF monogram for Denis Le Faulcheur (active 1577-1586) and a fountain symbol for Baptiste de Fontaine (active 1586-1588). Multiple date and legend combinations are recorded across the emission period.
