| Obverse description | Bare-headed bust of Henri III facing left, with a ruffled collar visible at the neck truncation. The royal effigy is rendered in low relief in the characteristic style of hammered French coinage of the late sixteenth century. A circular Latin legend surrounds the portrait, identifying the king as Henri III, King of France and Poland. The field is flat and slightly irregular, consistent with hammered manufacture. The legend is interrupted at the base by the bust truncation. |
