Obverse description Central field displays a fleur-de-lis surmounted by a royal crown, flanked by two additional fleurs-de-lis in the lower portion of the field, all set within an inner circle. The design follows the characteristic tournois type associated with the Capetian and Valois monetary tradition. The surrounding circular Latin legend reads +KAROLVS•FRACORV•REX (Charles, King of the Franks), separated from the central device by a beaded inner border. The hammered flan is irregular in outline, typical of medieval French billon coinage.
