Reverse description A plain cross with splayed ends dominates the central field, dividing the coin into four quadrants. The cross is of the standard tournois type, bold and unadorned, consistent with the longstanding Capetian monetary tradition. A circular Latin legend surrounds the cross, invoking a blessing upon the name of the Lord. The mint mark appears within the legend. The overall style reflects the hammered technique characteristic of French royal billon coinage of the sixteenth century.
