(Translation: Baudouin of Avesnes, lord of Beaumont.)
Reverse description A cross pattée occupies the central field, with outward-flaring arms of bold relief, and a crescent moon in each of the four cantons, a motif associated with the heraldic tradition of the Avesnes dynasty. The central design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, beyond which an inner legend band carries the first part of the religious inscription, itself separated from the outer legend by a second beaded border. The outer legend continues the devotional text around the full coin periphery, the whole executed in the robust Gothic lettering typical of late 13th-century Hainaut workshop production.
