| Obverse description | Bearded effigy of Emperor Julian II facing right, depicted with a pearl diadem, draped paludamentum, and cuirass, the details of the military dress rendered with fine engraving. The bust is of high relief and strongly characterised, displaying Julian's distinctive full beard — a deliberate iconographic choice aligning him with pagan philosopher-emperors. A dotted border encircles the design, with the Latin legend running clockwise around the periphery of the flan. The portrait conveys imperial authority combined with the intellectual gravitas Julian cultivated throughout his reign. |
