Obverse description Central field depicts a long upright sword flanked symmetrically by two crested helmets, each surmounted by an eagle displayed, the helmets resting above a shield of Lorraine charged with a bend. The composition is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend in Gothic lettering reads the duke's title, separated by floral rosette stops.

Reverse description Central field features a plain Greek cross within a beaded inner circle, itself surrounded by two concentric bands of Gothic legend separated by a pearled border. The inner legend band carries the mint attribution to Nancy, while the outer band bears the pious invocation. Small cross and star stops punctuate the inscriptions throughout.
