Obverse description Central field occupied by a large complex quartered shield bearing the multiple heraldic arms of René II as Duke of Lorraine and claimant to the thrones of Sicily and Jerusalem, comprising the arms of Hungary, Anjou, Guelders, Bar, and Lorraine among others, with an escutcheon en surtout. The shield is surmounted by a ducal crown of elaborate Gothic style, flanked by foliate ornaments. A beaded inner border frames the composition, with the circular Latin legend distributed around the periphery separated by cinquefoil stops.
